5 EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES TO MEET SMART PEOPLE
Seeing and meeting people are two separate things, and there are strategies to meet smart people; while we see people daily and everywhere we go, we have the choice to meet and connect with them strategically.
There are quite a few ways of meeting people, I mean smart intelligent people, as innovation can be found anywhere and through anyone. I will be sharing just five creative ways of meeting smart people.
The Traditional Way
This is one of my favorite ways of meeting smart people, I get excited about the fact that I have a networking event or a seminar coming up because there will be people to interact with and learn from.
One thing I know for certain is that we cannot meet people by staying locked in. We would need to go out, we would need to get dressed before going out, and I believe that how you dress is dependent on where you are going or who you are meeting with. Be ready to “Dress for Success”
Technology- Social Media
In this technology age where people often interact remotely, it is becoming increasingly difficult having a one-on-one physical interaction with people in general, let alone “Smart People”. Nonetheless, technology remains a valuable platform for meeting people of this calibre. Social media is a great place to meet likeminded and great minded people, to share and exchange ideas such as life experiences, motivational videos, and talks, job and/or business opportunities etc.
If you only access the traditional way of meeting smart people, you might want to try signing yourself up on a social media platform and there are quite a few out there but my favorites are Facebook and Linked-In for business ideas, job hunting and connecting with old friends.
Are you a sports fanatic or just like to get fit? You might as well kill two (or even more) birds with a stone. Going to sports clubs whether to use the gym, play badminton, golf or any other recreational sport comes with its own pecks of meeting some really smart people. Every intelligent person usually has a hobby or two, and what is to say sport isn’t one of them. I like the idea of getting fit, having fun and talking business or perhaps, discussing the perfect solution to a problem.
Something for a Cause
If you are the type of person who likes to volunteer your time for something you believe in just to help or support a cause, then this could be beneficial to you. I have a friend who lives in Denmark, she likes to run but hardly got the opportunity to do this, until she joined the Danish Marathon.
She did not only win the marathon, but she has been on top of her career since that day, as her running mate happened to be the missing piece of her career puzzle. She said to me, that it was the best time she had volunteered in her entire life. You’d be surprised just where you might meet that smart person you or your organisation need.
The use of online courses and webinar is becoming more prevalent. There is practically an online course or webinar on any subject matter. This is an excellent opportunity to not only meet subject matter experts but also other compatible individuals with interests in that same subject in a less formal classroom-type setting. Perhaps if you prefer to attend a classroom-based course, you have the opportunity to interact and meet a potential mentor or even enroll in a mentorship programme.
Whichever way you choose to take your course, you would be sure to meet some smart people who could help you along the way and who knows, you might just be the next smart person someone else is looking for.
Remember, “Great Minds Think Alike.”
