Why combining Business Analysis and Project Management? The reason is simply that there’s an interconnectivity between the functions of a Business Analyst and a Project Manager. So, let’s dive into the key points:
Build the right mindset
Mindset is very crucial and/or important in building a successful career in Business Analysis or Project Management. You need a “Can Do” attitude at all times as this will keep you going even when it seems the whole world is coming down on you. Embrace failure, think positively, stay motivated and never ever give up.
Skill Up / Get Trained
Right here I need to make it clear that there’s a difference between getting skilled/trained and getting a certification. What matters most is the skills you have, the problems you can solve and the value you can bring to the table. Get hands-on training when you have the chance. Likewise, seek professional opportunities to acquire experience or volunteer and always ask questions.
Certifications help a lot
Certifications are a validation of your skills in a particular subject area. It shows your employer or anyone that’s interested in your skill set that you have what it takes to deliver in the subject area. Examples of certifications in Project Management include PRINCE2© – Foundation track, Practitioner track and the Agile track. Another one is the APMG’s AgilePM – Fundamentals and Practitioner. Another popular Project Management qualification is from the Project Management Institute (PMI) – Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) and Project Management Professional (PMP).
For Business Analysis, on the other hand, we have the popular certifications from BCS – Business Analysis Foundation and International Diploma in Business Analysis. APMG also has AgileBA as well as the PMI-PBA from Project Management Institute (PMI).
International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) has four (4) levels which are ECBA (Entry Certificate in Business Analysis), CCBA (Certification of Capability in Business Analysis), CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) and CBATL (Certified Business Analysis Thought Leader).
Grow your Network
To successfully launch your career in any field of endeavour, you need to consistently grow your network. The opposite of networking is not-working. Use social media (LinkedIn) to your advantage. Your next employer is waiting on LinkedIn. Join relevant Groups, ask questions and provide answers when you can as well. You can join our Professional Network on Facebook and LinkedIn for tips, trends, freebies and many more career development nuggets.
With this tips, you are guara-damn-teed of securing your dream job.
